Dohler's love of special effects and horror was evident in his amateur 8mm short films fom the late 1960s.

The band scene in The Alien Factor has generated more comments than any Don Dohler film clip posted to YouTube. Interesting, since the scene was filler -- it was shot to add length to the running time. But the song, performed by Lon Talbot and his band Atlantis, is a catchy blend of garage rock and British Invasion and Don's brother Glenn (stage left), despite being a stand-in on bass guitar, taps his inner rock star with striking effect. Sadly, the song was never released.

Many of the video clips related to Don Dohler (including some on this page) were posted to YouTube by Dave Oldaker, who grew up near Don in Baltimore County and later worked as a key grip on his films. Dave took note of the odd fact that a trailer does not exist for The Alien Factor, so he remedied the situation with nice results.
